Some times people just don’t like you.

They don’t like how you look, how you speak, where you live, who you’re with, whatever.

That’s life.

The other day I got an email from someone who visited my Bootcamp website telling me how I needed to change it. Actually it was just a comment on my blog, not even an email.

It’s phrased ‘question’ my website, but there’s actually no room for a response.

She could have called or emailed to ask me some more questions, but this physiotherapist made her decision and moved on after having her say.

I actually enjoyed the comment because it’s a good excuse for a laugh.

I’d be disappointed if anyone received any communication like this.

All people need to do is have a conversation and all their questions would be answered.

Simple I think.

Rather than go on about it, read it for yourself, then read my response which I believe was necessary to defend myself.

And please let me know in the comments on facebook if I went overboard with it.

For now, the comment is still live on my website. I may or may not take it down.

Here is my reply.

Hi C______

Thanks for the lovely letter.
And thanks for posting your critique of how I run my business on my website which I use to advertise for potential clients. I’m sure they’ll also benefit from your knowledge.

Point 1.
Yes I study like I have ADD.
I have ADD. My brother has ADD. My Dad has ADD.

Pretty sure none of us are offended. Obviously you are, even though you don’t state you have ADD.
To say I have the attention span of a two year old whilst trying to study is fairly accurate, but not the whole picture.
I also am dyslexic and I have chronic fatigue.

So I struggle to stay focused while studying multiple subjects at once while the words seem to scramble themselves as I read. Then I don’t last too long due to the chronic fatigue so I have to break it up into small sections of study so I can get a few points understood.

Onto point 2.
I don’t like to list my qualifications for one main reason.
I have so many qualifications that I would come across as pompous and as a know it all.

If people want to know what I’ve studied, they’ll ask me. You said you would like to enquire about my qualifications, but then stated you wouldn’t actually join us as you feel I do not have sufficient knowledge of the way the body works.
I do.

Point 3.
Sit ups and crunches are bad for your back. They are.

Due to increased time sitting in today’s world causes shortening of the hip flexors and quads, tilting the hip forward and putting the hamstrings on stretch and increasing tension of the low back amongst other things. This also tightens the front of the body.

By doing crunches and sit ups you tighten it even more, leaving the lower segments of the spine at a terrible angle and the person exposed to incredible stress through the discs.

Lifting something too heavy or slightly the wrong way can cause a disc to blow out very quickly. Thus, I feel it’s not worth the risk.

Anti-flexion, anti-rotation and stabilisation exercises in normal posture are far more like what the body will handle in every day life and leaves the client with much safer alternatives and a reduced likelihood of blowing a disc, especially on my watch.

I won’t take the risk doing sit ups and crunches with myself or my clients.

But don’t take my word for it; research Dr Stuart McGill who is a leading spine specialist throughout the world. I’ve met him a few times and believe what he says.
This article is pretty good: https://uwaterloo.ca/applied-health-sciences/hes-got-our-backs.

We offer a 2 week free trial to anyone who wants to try us out, no questions asked.

You didn’t sign up to try us and you didn’t call us ASKING questions for more information, so I guess you may not have been serious about joining in the first place? I don’t know.

But you are always welcome to come and try us, only if you are happy with my specific qualifications and feel I have sufficient knowledge of the way the body works.

Regards,
Trav
